FOOTBALL - Maver, Savoie & Gardner Named CIS All-Canadians

HAMILTON, Ont. - The CIS football all-Canadian teams, presented by Tourism Hamilton, were announced Thursday night at the Hamilton Convention Centre. The Gryphon football team received four All-Canadian nods.

Kicker/punter Rob Maver from Brampton, Ont was named both a First-Team All-Canadian as one of the best special team players in the Country in the punting category and a Second-Team All-Canadian in the kicker category. This past season the third-year Political Science student averaged 46.12 yards on 67 punts and 55.17 yards on 35 kickoffs.
Second-year halfback, James Savoie of Niagara Falls, Ont. was also named a First-Team All-Canadian. The future looks bright for the young Landscape Architecture student who tallied 38 solo tackles, 16 assisted tackles and two interceptions this season.
The only Gryphon to receive Second-Team All-Canadian status was second year wide receiver, Jedd Gardner from Niagara Falls, Ont. Garder, a Commerce Business student had an outstanding season for the Gryphons catching 38 passes for 812 yards and four touchdowns. He ran the ball three times for 39 yards and returned six punts for 505 yards and two kickoffs for 91 yards.
